Coro Wreath Pendant, Blue Pink Amber Rhinestone, Art Deco, 1940s Vintage Jewelry CHRISTMAS IN JULY Sale

Wow! This pendant was certainly designed for presence with its highly polished finish reflecting the light. The bow is so stylish with its slim cut outs and unusually coloured rhinestones. The whole design is certainly giving a nod to Art Deco with the emphasise on geometry and colour. Even the gold setting is asserting its tone!

On the reverse of the pendant there is a hook for a chain and it is signed Coro without a copyright symbol, so an older piece.

In very good vintage condition, very slight wear to the gold tone finish

2 1/8" in height by 1 3/4" wide

Carnelian Intaglio Ring, 18K Gold, Victorian, Reverse Carved, Vintage Jewelry CHRISTMAS IN JULY Sale

Carnelian Intaglio Ring, 18K Gold, Victorian, Reverse Carved, Vintage Jewelry CHRISTMAS IN JULY Sale

www.etsy.com/shop/OurBoudoir carnelian 18K gold ring

Here is a stunning 18K gold carnelian ring. It is a two sided ring, one side has a dainty flower carved on the carnelian with AMOI written beneath, while a bird (perhaps a Robin) is depicted on the other side carrying a heart. The carnelian stone is set on a simple polished gold band, which is hallmarked right where the band goes through the stone. The 50 is visible for 750, 18K gold. Tests as 18K gold.

The shape and design of this ring is delightful, enhanced by the contrast between the dark carnelian stone and the crispness of polished gold.

The intaglio at the centre of the carnelian is very well done. It depicts the cute bird on one side and a flower on the other. So it is a very romantic ring with loving pictural messages.

When a carving is done inwards, such as this, it is called 'intaglio' which is the opposite to 'cameo'. The methods and materials are similar, however intaglios can be used to make a raised impression in wax for sealing documents.

This is a beautiful ring that looks fabulous on. Very comfortable to wear.

In very good vintage condition,

ring size 8, 5/8" in length by 3/8" wide

Art Nouveau Lady Stick Pin or Hat Pin

                                                              $32

This is a delightful Art Nouveau stick or hat pin featuring this beautiful lady.  She sits back in the metal surroundings and dominates the pin.  The border of the hat pin is beautiful, with scroll work and a recess or groove separating it from the centre.   It is then replicated by the inner border that smooths and echos the flourishes.

Hat pins were utilised from the mid 19th century for ladies to keep their straw hats in place.   The pins then became longer and more elaborate to match changes in hairstyles and hats.  The pins were used across all sectors of society and, therefore, one finds pins made from enamel, tortoise shell, ivory and other expensive materials.  Equally there would be much simpler hat pins perhaps with just a black or white pin for the working girls.  The pins would often be made to match buttons on outfits or to feature gemstones and could be worked in high grade gold or a gold or silver wash.

Starting a collection of hat pins is, therefore, highly rewarding as there is so much versatility to consider, while also providing a great investment for the future.

Consider my lady,  she is very indicative of the Art Nouveau period.  This is the image we often evoke - a beautiful lady with a bohemian lifestyle.  So I imagine her original owner was attracted to her for the same reasons that we are, and probably cared about her deeply.  She is in very good vintage condition for her age.

The pin measures 2 3/4" in length with the lady just over 1/4" wide.

Art Deco Brooch, Iris Glass, 1940s Vintage Jewelry, Gift for Her SPRING SALE

Art Deco Brooch, Iris Glass, 1940s Vintage Jewelry, Gift for Her SPRING SALE

https://www.etsy.com/listing/274420898/art-deco-brooch-iris-glass-1940s-vintage?ga_search_query=iris+glass+brooch&ref=shop_items_search_1

An unbelievably beautiful piece featuring three circles of rainbow effect, cushion cut rhinestones that surround a larger central glass stone. All the stones are prong set.  The gold tone prongs and settings add further glitter to this dazzling show.  The brooch is dome shaped to create depth and dimension, and the settings are open backed to allow the light to shine through these stones. It is secured with a roll over c clasp.

This would make a beautiful accessory for a bride as a sash pin or hair accessory. There is a touch of blue in the Iris glass prism of colour.

The pin is in very good vintage condition, measuring 1 1/4" diameter

This would have been manufactured during the transitional period, a movement from the dainty delicate jewelry of the earlier Art Deco years to the retro heavier pieces of the 1950s. Iris glass is very much an earlier influence.

Iris glass is highly collectible.  Up until the end of the 19th century, iris glass was naturally found in the banks of rivers sourced in the European Alps.  It was a form of quartz with an irridescence achieved by the internal fracturing as it made its way down from the mountains. This natural supply of Rhine stones was soon exhausted.  Bohemian makers in the Gablonz region, therefore, began production of an artificial gemstone that replicated the prism qualities of iris glass by substituting with strands of colour.  These rhinestones proved to be a commerical success and were demanded worldwide.
